Why Pilates

Benefits of improved core stability through Pilates;

  • Decrese risk of injury to the spine, shoulders and associated joints.

  • Improved application of force from limbs, from having a more stable base to work from.

  • Improved apperance

  • Improved balance and motor skills

  • Reduction in lower back pain

  • Improved lung capacity by improving thoracic cavity through  posture

  • Decrease risk of falls due to corrections in the center of gravity

General back pain

Many potential causes of back pain derive as a result of postural deviations. Pilates addresses spinal alignment preceding execution of any movement, in order to install posture awareness in all movements.

Bulging or prolapsed discs

High impact forms of exercises that are continually performed through uncontrolled movements repeatedly stresses the discs leading to injury. Pilates helps keep discs supple and healthy.

Osteoarthritis

Occurring in the facet joints of the vertebrae due to wear and tear, resulting in inflammation can be a source of pain. It is not reversible but can be prevented through strengthening muscle support.

‘If the spine cannot be stabilised, there is no base around the arms or legs can move’.
